Education and Success with ADHD

In honor of ADHD Awareness week, in the USA this week and Europe next week, I have created
a series of videos that will be placed on this blog as well as our Facebook Fan page.

It is not enough to learn about ADHD by going to a lecture or conference. In order to truly have
success with ADHD you have to go out into the world and experience the challenges and
successes of living with ADHD.

You can learn to identify how and where your ADHD show up in different situations. The best kind
of education is a practical one that teaches you how and where you can learn to manage your
challenges while accentuating your strengths. Learning to let go of beliefs that dictate how you
should live your life will only hold you back. You must learn to embrace your unique brain wiring
and integrate the natural ways you do things successfully in your world.

Elevating! Thank you David! Can I somehow share this with my FB friends/family?  I am a graduate, and do receive e-mail yet from ADDCA. And the knowledge/information is still resonating-these ? many years later.

While some will surely question the wisdom of this recommendation, I fully agree with you. It’s all very well to try to change oneself with CBT, coaching, etc., but this course of action is not often not successful for long. Meaning, those adults with AD/HD or ADD fall back into their old ways more often than not. The problem with this is that they chalk it up as another “failure” and this makes matters worse.

Learning about themselves, about what works and what doesn’t, and especially learning from their mistakes, that is bound to bring more success because they will have learned to love themselves if they embrace who they are at the outset. Forgiveness is also needed - being able to forgive themselves if they fail.
