Good Morning America Interview with Dr. Ned Hallowell
I highly recommend the Good Morning America Interview with Dr. Ned Hallowell.
It is a compelling, real-life segment that honestly portrays what adults with ADHD
can do to dramatically improve the quality of their lives.
Of course, Ned, as only Ned can do, clearly and passionately communicates
important points, about adult ADHD, in his down- to- earth style. He delivers a
powerful message about education, proper diagnosis, medications and coaching.
He emphasizes they are all part of a comprehensive program to effectively manage
ADHD.
This segment is a wonderful resource. It is a New Year’s GIFT everyone
can use to educate others about ADHD while also empowering those who think
they have it to make important choices that could transform their lives.

What’s Your New Story for the New Year?**
What’s Your New Story for the New Year?
What’s the theme of your story going to be this year?
You are probably aware that the power of your mind can either propel or prohibit you from taking focused, forward- moving action.
You are probably aware of what positive messages can do for your brain. Yet, most of you never go to a “proactive place” because
you have established strong patterns that you actually feel comfortable living with every day. You feel safe with the story that you
have created, even though you know it does not serve you well.
What’s the story you really want to write about?
Is it about something you really want to pursue but have talked yourself out of?
Is it about the things that you feel you have to do to please others?
Or, is it going to be the story you have been really “wanting to write” but you have been stuck writing the first word?
Get out of stuck and get into success! Take the right kind of action and adjust the results, of your actions, as they show up.
It is the only way to truly experience success.
To launch success, you have to pay attention to your own meaningful story, the one igniting your heart and in harmony with the logic of your head.
It doesn’t have to be perfect.
It doesn’t have to be great.
It doesn’t have to meet a specific expectation of success.
It does have to be your own sincere story and mean something very powerful to you. Now is the time to edit your old story.
You can create a new plot supporting the true picture of “who” you want to be.
The bottom line is that you are the only one who has the power to change your current story. You possess a great power which is rarely used.
It is the power of choice. You have the power, to pause, in any given moment and make the choices that serve your best interests, goals or mission.
No one makes you do anything that you don’t want to do.
Stop procrastinating.
Take the action.
Launch your own success story today! You have the power, you have the choice.
So, when are you going to start?
It is not enough to just be able to pay attention to what you are paying attention to in any
given moment.Just because some topic, activity or conversation is attracting your attention
does not always mean it represents the best use of your time and energy.
Paying attention to anything that stimulates your brain without pausing to notice how that
stimulus is serving your goals is crucial to making sure you are not getting
sidetracked by something that does not serve you well. You have to be able to pause and
pay attention to your intention, or lack of intention, and determine its purpose. Without
an intention you have no GPS or path to follow. You need to have a direction that will guide
you to a positive destination. When you know that your heart is in harmony with your head
having what you want in the here and now than you can feel assured that your intention is
one that will serve you well.

Let Yourself Dream
If you only dream while you are sleeping, you are missing half the opportunities to
create your own powerful picture of possibility. The only thing that gets in the way
of manifesting your dreams is the illusion of fear and doubt.
Sometimes we have to reinvent a new possibility by giving our selves permission to
temporarily bypass a negative belief that is holding us back. We need to let ourselves
reinvent a new possibility by allowing our imaginations to run free and ask: “If we knew
we could live the kind of life we truly desired and knew we could not fail getting there
what would that life look like?” When we deny our ability to dream asleep, or awake,
we frustrate our inner imagination and prevent any new possibilities form forming in our
hearts that could ignite the head to pursue our new reality.

ADHD and Your Inner Diamond of Light (v)*
ADHD is like a rough diamond waiting to be polished. Many people look for the perfection
in diamonds and since there are no perfect diamonds, they end up just looking at its flaws.
This type of perfectionistic mindset is very dominant in our world. It creates more of a focus
on the flaws ADDers experience with their daily functioning and makes them feel sub-par.
The truth is that people with ADHD are also valuable gems with a divine light who need to
be accepted with their imperfections. Rather than focusing on an ADDer’s flaws, look at their
attributes and embrace their inner diamond.

Learning from the Paradox of ADHD (V)
Life is a paradox of seemingly opposite situations and experiences that seem to happen
without any explanation. When events are perceived in a dark or hopeless way, we often
ask: “Why me?” “Why did this happen to me?” and “I am hopeless.”We find ourselves
drowning in our own, uncontrolled emotions. Maybe these paradoxical experiences are
here to teach us something important.
After all, how would we know what light was unless we had experienced darkness, or
what success was like unless we had experienced struggle and frustration or how can
we understand what it is like to live a physically healthy life unless we have experienced
sickness.
ADHD is a paradox of weakness that affects how and where we can pay attention,
control our response mechanism or manage our overwhelming energy and thoughts. However,
ADHD can also be an abundance of hyper focus, boundless levels of creativity, and physical
energy that can be great on the ball field or working on an important project.Maybe ADHD is
there to teach us that for all the weaknesses we possess they are also there to show us
where our strengths are located.
When I know what I don’t do well, is it possible that I can learn what I am capable of doing well?
When I know what I can’t pay attention to, have I thought about what I can pay attention to?
If we look at our struggles and pains as something that define us and live with these unchallenged
memories rather than learn from them, we will become our own source of pain. We all have the ability
to become people who can learn from our own painful experiences; by using them as tools to help
us grow into smarter, stronger human beings seeking to create joy, happiness and fulfillment.
